perennial grasses. I have just broke ground on soil that hasn't been farmed in many years. Currently I have 30 beds under tarps. This will be my primary technique to manage weeds in my system. Additionally I will use a permanent bed system. I will hand remove weeds that are present. I will use intensive spacing and planting schedules to minimize the chance of weeds germinating. I will till minimally. Leaving the seed bank in the deep in ground to eventually rot away.
Describe your primary insect challenges AND methods of control. Do not answer "none". You MUST indicate either actual pest challenges and/or LIKELY challenges, and you must ALSO indicate how you manage (or would manage) them. If you indicate a product, also specify how often it's used. *
Unknown at this point, assuming cut worms and beetles. For both pest and disease management I will rotate crops on a three year rotation. I have 30 beds currently with my goal to have 30 more by the Fall all in production and rotation. These I plan to break into 6 bed lots and have a ten step rotation alternating heavy and light feeders and moving crops around to keep pest and disease from getting ahead of my plantings. Additionally for insects I plan to use netting and row cover to protect the plants.

unknown First year. In addition to three year rotation, For my crops Downy Mildew and Cladosporium leaf spot are an issue especially in tunnels or areas of low circulation and high humidity. I will use only varieties that are resistant and will hot water treat my seeds. Also for season extension, when in the tunnels there's little to no air circulation I will remove row cover when the air warms up in tunnels to allow whatever circulation is present to help against downy mildew. Fusarium wilt I will treat mostly the same with plenty of airflow and seeds that are resistant. Late blight with tomatoes I hope to manage by harvesting everything before the disease overruns and as with everything else in my permanent bed system, pull plants out of the beds and compost or discard the residual plant matter.
Please list the water source you use for crop irrigation. If source is public river, pond or lake, please note the name: *

How have you confirmed with your supplier that the transplants are grown without synthetic fertilizers or wetting agents? *

Onions sets
Chemical/Spray Drift and Buffers:
Is there any likelihood of Chemical/Spray drift contamination of your fields? *
no
Do you have an adequate buffer to protect yourself from potential contamination? *
yes
Please describe your buffer. Be as specific as possible. On all sides, how far is it from your crops to the next closest use (road, conventional crop, residential yard)? Be sure to specify what is grown on neighboring land that is in agricultural use. For example: To the north and east, a wooded area of at least 100 yards separates us from the neighbor's corn fields, to the south is a fallow field at least 100 yards deep separating us from the road, and to the west about 60 feet separates our crops from a field where conventional corn and soybeans are grown. *
20' West of my beds is another garden managed by the owners of the farm. They grow greens and other vegetables and some herbs. They don't use any chemical sprays or non organic fertilizers. Everything they use they get from Northeast organics as far as fertilizers go, and they spray neem oil for pests. 50' to the North and south of my beds is woods. There's a stream that runs through the north side of the property that is surrounded by trees on both sides. South is a tree line more than 30 feet wide, then a horse pasture. East of my beds is woods.

I will not label, or in any way lead consumers to believe that produce not raised in accord with CNG standards is Certified Naturally GrownTM. *
I understand that I have to complete at least one (and hopefully more) Certification Inspection(s) of another farm in my area each year, and that the inspection will NOT be of the same farmer that inspected me. *
I have reviewed the Certified Naturally Grown certification standards, I understand them, and I will abide by them. I understand that if I have any questions I may contact CNG for clarification. *
