Farmland Management and Practices

Primary Tillage System: *
We rented disc to till land in year one (2015), and we applied manure in year one (2015) with disc. No tillage required since then.

It is recommended to use a low nitrogen fertilizer, if needed, but my study indicates that fertilizing stimulates leaf production and not flower and oil. if I do use a fertilizer, I will use tea bag compost.

I use a nylon mess fabric weed barrier that the lavender rows are planted in. In th aisles I planted grass, and I mow the aisles.

Likely challenges of Spittle bugs in spring. It is recommended to simply wash off the bugs with a strong spray of water. Another likely challenge is Aphids spreading Alfalfa Mosaic Virus. It is recommended to remove affected plants and burn them.

Likely challenge is root rot, caused by fungus. It is recommended to remove and destroy affected plants. Future planting will be done in an area with good soil drainage.

I called them.

I bought the plants from the nursery over a year ago and no synthetic fertilizers have been used on my farm.

Please describe your buffer. Be as specific as possible. On all sides, how far is it from your crops to the next closest use (road, conventional crop, residential yard)? Be sure to specify what is grown on neighboring land that is in agricultural use. For example: To the north and east, a wooded area of at least 100 yards separates us from the neighbor's corn fields, to the south is a fallow field at least 100 yards deep separating us from the road, and to the west about 60 feet separates our crops from a field where conventional corn and soybeans are grown. *
To the North, West, and South are organic hay fields. To the east I are conventional corn and soybeans grown at a distance of 100 yards.
