we see annual weed seed germination and address that with early and frequent cultivation using hand tools, we also use landscape fabric for around our tunnels. Our most common perennial weeds we find in the garden is horse nettle, milk weed, and winter cress

We see cabbage moths, flea beetles and aphids as our primary pest challenges. From aphids we find that growing in tunnels and managing soil health help, flea beetles are addressed with row cover and growing in tunnels, cabbage moths are addressed by scouting for eggs and caterpillars, we use Bt as a last resort. Deer are also a problem - we grow vulnerable crops in tunnels or cver with row cover at night.

Our primary disease challenge is mildew on cucurbits - we use landscape fabric to prevent soil splash back, manage soil health and spray Milstop and Cease in rotation

Seeds, Transplants and Buffers

How do you select your seeds? CNG standards call for growers to make a good faith effort to locate organically grown seeds by contacting at least 3 major suppliers. *
We purchase seed from Johnnys, High Mowing and Osborne Seeds - at this time about 80% of our purchased seeds are Organic.
Do you purchase or grow using any Genetically Modified seeds? *

we use a variety depending on what is available at our local farm supply, but generally prefer a compost based potting mix, we have used: - Daddy Pete’s Sea and Farm: Composted Cow Manure, Sphagnum Peat Moss, Premium Aged Pine Bark Fines, Perlite, Sandy Loam, Oyster Shell, Oceanic Fish Meal, Crab Meal, Shrimp Meal, Earthworm Castings, Fossilized Bat Guano, Kelp Meal - Daddy Pete’s Pete-lite (organic): Aged pine bark, peat moss, perlite which we mix with Daddy Pete's Composted Cow Manure (organic) - Daddy Pete’s Potting Mix (organic): composted cow manure, pine bark, perlite, gypsum

Please describe your buffer. Be as specific as possible. On all sides, how far is it from your crops to the next closest use (road, conventional crop, residential yard)? Be sure to specify what is grown on neighboring land that is in agricultural use. For example: To the north and east, a wooded area of at least 100 yards separates us from the neighbor's corn fields, to the south is a fallow field at least 100 yards deep separating us from the road, and to the west about 60 feet separates our crops from a field where conventional corn and soybeans are grown. *
Our gardens and farm is surrounded by at least 50- 100 ft on trees/wood line on at least 3 sides of all our garden spaces, our gardens are at least 15 acres away from the nearest main road, our farm is located at then end of a gravel road - our gardens are at least 100 feet from our driveway separated by pasture and trees
